Swollen battery is the most urgent and dangerous sign that your battery is failing. This occurs when a battery gets overcharged, damaged or simply old.
It may charge perfectly fine with no awful smell. But slightly swollen batteries, even like this one I posted, still pose a serious fire hazard and must be removed immediately.
